I went to Den Haag (The Hague) in Holland to visit my friend, F, who got a sweet job at the European patent office. (In addition to his low tax situation, he also revealed that he gets 10% off to Club Med vacations. Bastard) Here's the very very fast recap of a good weekend.
- 120 Euro ticket to The Hague - An excellent dinner of many many many spanish tapas: 25 Euro - Two wine glasses and five beers - A wee early morning walk through the Hague looking for a pizza or kebab place open past 5 AM. - Some time to finish "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" by Jonathan Safran Foer (excellent, excellent read) on the train. Book cost 9.30 Euro.
A tour of the seediest bars in the Hague and getting my butt patted and neck licked by various old, seedy-looking people in the above bars but a good weekend with good friends who I hadn't seen in a long time. Priceless.
I took a random trip to Hannover, Germany last weekend. Its about 2 hours east of Frankfurt (by high-speed train). Pretty nice city. It appears that they've tried to rebuild the city center just like how the town used to look prior to when the city was bombed. It was a pretty nice place with some really good restaurants. I'll definitely have to make a note to go back for some more food. There's also a nice artificial lake that the citizens of Hannover seems to enjoy a lot. When I was there, there were tons of people in bathing suits just sitting by the lake. That's a good and a bad thing since many of the guys like to wear these g-string like speedos. Ugh . . .Anyway, here are the pics. Thankfully, none of the guys at the lake. Read more...
Would you give these people a dollar? They're asking for money to afford an In Vitro Fertilization. Although, in their about page, they say that they just bought their second home. I'm sorry but why didn't they just take the money that they used to buy their second house (that they apparently don't know what to do with) and pay for the in vitro. The down payment for that house must have been around $20k. This just sounds like bad money management.
BTW, this pic is a pic of my friend YJ's kid, Mica. Ain't she cute?
