Asian American Expatriate in Frankfurt, Germany!

July 16th, 2006

Why does this man (Garrison Keilor of NPR) look so angry? This picture is on Amazon. This is the best picture that they could find? I thought he was supposed to be a witty guy.

So I take the S-bahn into Frankfurt every other day to meet up with people or to go to the gym or just to go shopping. Anyway, today, on the way back from the gym, I was just sitting there, minding my own business when out of nowhere . . .

4 days until Cincy
56 days until Berlin
58 days until Barcelona
62 days until Koln
69 days until Brussels

And then tomorrow, maybe I'll take a "spontaneous" trip to Hamburg. Definitely not to Berlin since the Love Parade is going on.

One more day posted by cacheng
Tomorrow the parents are going back to San Francisco. Today, I need to figure out something to show them. After reading the tour book of Germany, they wanted to see Koln, but after going to the train station and seeing how much a round trip ticket would be on the ICE (around 80 Euro without the BahnCard), they said "no way, we're not paying that much." But c'mon, you're on vacation, you're kinda supposed to shell out money to see things that you haven't seen before, right?

So now, they want to figure out a way to go on regional and local trains using the "Schones Wochenendes" ticket (32 Euro for up to 5 people traveling on RB, RE and S-bahns). There is a way but the train ride takes 3 hours each way. Ugh. The things we do to save money. Its just like when we were little and our vacations involved visiting relatives since we could stay with them rather than go to hotels.

Hi everybody.

I'm here in Greece. Everyone told me that I'd be burning up here since Greece is always 90 degrees and above in July. Well, they were wrong!!! It's been cloudy and looking like its about to rain ever since we got here. But other than that, Athens is pretty awesome.
